Q. What is the delivery charge for orders made from the Essentia Organics website?

A. For all orders within Singapore we charge a simple flat $5 for delivery per order. This means that you can get together with your friends or you simply buy several products for yourself and not worry about spiralling delivery costs. We will send orders to Malaysia, Hong Kong or Japan at present however a higher fee will be charged based on the weight of the products ordered.

Q. Where can I find out more about promotions that you are offering?

Q. Is it safe to order from your website?

A. Our website is secured using SSL (https) which means that you can safely create accounts and order products from our website. All payments are conducted through Paypal which means your credit card information is kept confidential.

Q. What does it mean if a product is organic?

A. Organic ingredients must be grown in a sustainable manner without the use of artificial fertilizers or pesticides, human waste, or sewage sludge (not pleasant to talk about let alone putting it on your body!). GMO’s are strictly prohibited.

Q. Why should I care about organic?

A. When you buy organic it means you are placing safe and pure ingredients on your skin and your baby's skin. Research shows that organic produce has many nutritional benefits over conventionally grown produce. Research has also shown that ingredients placed on the skin can be absorbed very quickly into the blood stream[2]. Pregnant women should also be careful as it is unknown what can and cannot reach your unborn baby. Buying organic is also playing a part in caring for the environment and the future of the planet.

Q. Who certifies that your ingredients are organic?

A. Ingredients are certified organic by either ACO (Australian Certified Organic) or NASAA (National Association for Sustainable Agriculture Australia). Their websites are http://www.australianorganic.com.au and http://www.nasaa.com.au respectively.

Q. Can organic or natural ingredients cause allergies?

A. It is always difficult to determine what might cause an allergic reaction. 100% of our ingredients are completely natural and selected specifically for their gentleness on mum and babies skin. However, allergic reactions have been known to occur even with natural products. For this reason we recommend customers to always "spot test" any new products before putting them to use.

Q. Where do the ingredients come from?

A. Ingredients are sourced from Australian suppliers however suppliers may source original ingredients from around the world such as through fair trade. Fair trade advocates the paying of fair prices particularly to marginalised producers and workers in developing nations in order to provide greater equality in international trade. Most of the ingredients are either certified organic or fair trade sourced.

Q. What does it mean to be vegan?

A. Vegan products do not contain any animal by-products. This includes anything that is derived from animals such as dairy and bees wax. All of the skin care ranges are vegan with the exception of two. Baby Chest Rub and Botty Butter are vegetarian as they contain organic unbleached bees wax.

Q. What are natural fatty alcohols?

A. Natural fatty alcohols are derived from natural fats and oils originating in plants. They are closely related to fatty acids such as Omega 3 and have been shown to be beneficial in many ways[3]

Q. What is GMO?

A. GMO stands for genetically modified organisms. Crops are often genetically altered to allow them to withstand large amounts of herbicides and pesticides. It is getting increasingly difficult to get food or ingredients that have not been genetically altered in some way or another.

Q. How oily are your baby oils?

A. Both baby oils are made in a base of nut oils such as almond and macadamia, with a combination of essential oils. The newborn baby oil mixes in rosehip oil which is great for sensitive skin including that of newborn babies. This is a costly carrier essential oil that has many beneficial properties for skin.

Q. Why shouldn't I just use talc powder as a baby powder?

A. Talc powder remains a concern and there has been much debate about how talc affects humans. Talc has been implicated in pulmonary (lung) issues, lung cancer, skin cancer and ovarian cancer[4][5][6]. While there appears to be inconclusive evidence to date it would be best to stay away from any talc containing products. None of our skincare ranges contain talc.

Q. You add natural antioxidants to protect against rancidity. What is rancidity?

A. When fat and oil and other lipids come into contact with surroundings, oxidation takes place due to the presence of oxygen. This can lead to changes in smell and potentially a loss of nutrients otherwise known as rancidity. This process is increased in the presence of heat and light. Natural antioxidants do not tend to have as long a shelf life as synthetic antioxidants. Natural ingredients tend to break down faster than compounds that do not naturally exist in nature. If a skin care product does not break down reasonably quickly this can be an indication that synthetic or highly processed methods have been used.

Q. How should these products be kept?

A. In order to extend shelf life it is best to keep the product away from light or heat sources. Try to keep it in a cabinet if possible. Products generally have a shelf life of around 12 - 18 months unopened. Once opened, we recommend that you use the products within 6 months. While products can last much longer, this is when you will receive the most benefit from the natural botanic ingredients.
